Colleen Fitzgerald, LCPC

Drawing on many different approaches, I’m an integrative therapist who personalizes my work with clients based on what each person needs. I have advanced training in Internal Family Systems, or IFS, (see below for more info), and I really enjoy utilizing IFS in my work with clients. As a therapist, I’m passionate about reducing shame to encourage growth, and my therapeutic work is trauma-informed.

I’ve worked in a variety of mental health settings, including centers focused on eating disorder treatment and substance abuse treatment. I attended graduate school at Loyola University Maryland where I earned a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. For clients who are interested, I offer spiritually integrated counseling that calls on what is most meaningful to the client in order to promote healing.

As an affirming therapist, I welcome the opportunity to work with LGBTQ+ clients.

What is Internal Family Systems (IFS)?

IFS is an approach which encourages acceptance of all of our “parts” without shame.

What do I mean by a “part?” For instance, maybe a part of you wants to end a cycle of dieting while another part of you believes you’ll only feel better about yourself when you hit a certain weight.

All of your parts are welcome in therapy with me because they all serve a purpose. We’ll work together to figure out what parts of you want to have in charge and what parts need to take a step back. Then, we’ll build relationships with those parts to help you move closer to the changes you are seeking.
